THE FACE SHOP Yehwadam Artemisia Soothing Moisturizing Line Review

Hi guys, today I'll be sharing all about THE FACE SHOP's new Yehwadam Artemisia Soothing Moisturizing Line!

I've reviewed most of THE FACE SHOP's several Yehwadam lines, but they recently released a new line this year called the Yehwadam Artemisia Soothing Moisturizing Line.

First of all, what is Yehwadam? If you're not already familiar with it, Yehwadam is THE FACE SHOP's anti-ageing line and the name is actually an acronym consisting of 3 words that represent the philosophy of the line:

YE (蘂): herbs and plants
HWA (花): flower
DAM (譚): story.

Artemisia, also famously known as Korean Mugwort/쑥 (ssuk) is an ingredient that's been used in traditional Korean medicine for generations + has become very popular in K-beauty in the past few years.

Fun fact, ssuk is also said to have a bit of a role in one of Korea's oldest origin stories. In an excerpt from The Klog:

"In this story, a bear and a tiger wished to become human. A heavenly prince promised them that if they stayed in a mountain cave for one hundred days, with only pungent garlic and mugwort to eat, that he would grant their wish. The tiger could not wait, but the bear remained in the cave and was transformed into a beautiful woman. She later had a son who founded the first kingdom of Korea."

Artemisia is known as a powerful soothing and healing ingredient, and its very well known for its effectiveness at treating redness and skin sensitivities. In traditional Korean medicine, artemisia is known as a “warming” ingredient for the body and has been used for hundreds of years to improve circulation and relieve muscle pain. To this day, it is commonly used in herbal baths at Korean bathhouses to relieve and soothe the body.

THE FACE SHOP is also aware that heat can play an effect in damaging our skin; UV rays, thinning of the skin dermis, reduced skin barrier and dry skin are just some of the results that may occur from heat damage.

Formulated with a fresh, non-sticky feeling, the new Yehwadam Artemisia Soothing Moisturizing Line promises to hydrate the skin and keep it calm, cool and clear. Fighting the effects of heat damage mentioned above, this line of products contains three precious Korean medicinal herbs:

Today I'll be sharing all about the three products from this line, as well as my thoughts and my experience using them.

WHAT IS IT

The Yehwadam Artemisia Soothing Moisturizing Toner is a clear, fresh toner that promises to deliver instant moisture.

Although these are slightly mid/high priced, I have to say the sizes make them quite worth it. For RM225.90 you get 120ml worth of cream, where other brands usually give only 30ml-50ml. The toner comes with 180ml while the emulsion has 160ml, so overall I think the price-to-size ratio of these products are actually pretty fair.

PACKAGING

Similar to the Yehwadam Revitalizing Moisturizing line, these products feature a teal/mint packaging. It might be a bit confusing, but the new Artemisia Soothing Moisturizing line has a more modern/newer look.

Why I say they look modern is because although the shape of the products is similar to the other Yehwadam glass tubs and bottles, this new line of products have a more minimalist design:

While the tub comes with a cover. One thing to note, it does not come with a spatula. I'm good with that since I already have a ton, just something I thought I'd mention. I never use my fingers to directly scoop product from tubs because I feel it's not very hygienic.

All three products have mostly EWG green ratings with a few yellow ones, meaning they are unlikely to cause any skin irritations.

As I mentioned above, all three products contain 3 precious medicinal herbs.

1. Artemisia Capillaris (from Yeong-cheon)

- also known as Mugwort, has detoxification, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties.

2. Houttuyniae Herba (from Gong-Ju)

- also known as Heartleaf, is a well-loved ingredient that soothes troubled skin, promoting healing as well.

3. Water Lily (from Tae-an)

- has the ability to absorb and filter out toxic substances in water. On the skin, it provides protective, anti-oxidant benefits.

The toner is paraben-free, sulfate-free, alcohol-free, silicone-free, EU-allergen-free, fungal acne-safe and contains minimal ingredients. With Panthenol, it helps to promote would healing and powerfully moisturize the skin.

The emulsion is not silicone-free nor is it fungal acne-safe but it is paraben-free, sulfate-free, alcohol-free, EU-allergen-free and contains minimal ingredients.

Finally, the cream  is paraben-free, sulfate-free, alcohol-free, silicone-free, EU-allergen-free, fungal acne-safe and contains minimal ingredients. It also contains Beta-glucan and Trehalose that provides soothing benefits with a non-greasy, soft finish.

FRAGRANCE & TEXTURE

The toner has a fresh, watery & lightweight texture. It has a slight scent which disappears almost immediately, and it absorbs really quickly into the skin. I think this kind of toner is perfect for hot climates, especially for places like Malaysia.

The emulsion has a slightly gel-like texture, and it's really lightweight as well. I expected it to be similar to milk like the other emulsions I've tried, but this one is very lightweight and almost like viscous water.

The cream reminds me a bit of Belif's Water Bomb products where it's super hydrating but unbelievably light. Compared to the emulsion, this one is more hydrating and definitely more cooling. I experienced the cooling effects immediately after applying it, which I love! It has very little to no scent, and it absorbs quickly as well, leaving my skin feeling cool + hydrated but not sticky at all.

HOW TO USE

I use these products in this sequence:

Day:

Cleanser - Toner - Emulsion - Sunblock

Night

Cleanser - Toner - Essence - Eye Cream - Serum - Cream

For the day, I usually tend to be very simple as I'm always rushing. You can use the cream as well as its very comfy, but I just find the essence better to work with during the day (as I prefer heavier products at night and the emulsion wouldn't really fit in).

For the might, I switch out the emulsion for the cream and add in a few extra steps, depending on my skin's condition.

MY REVIEW & VERDICT

For the summertime (which is all year round in Malaysia if we're being honest lol), this toner is perfect. I love the lightweight texture and the quick absorption. It does feel like it helps to give the skin a quick drink/boost of hydration, and I love how fresh the feeling is. You can layer this via the 7-skin method as well if you wish. I've used it a couple of times as a mini mask by soaking some cotton pads and leaving them on my cheeks, and they have helped at keeping my skin texture nice and smooth + my mask-ne at bay.

For the emulsion, I really think it's a steal. For the price, easiness of application + amount of product you get, it's a great deal (at least in my books). After using this constantly for the day-time, I really have seen my skin react well with this throughout the day in the sense that it hydrates my skin well + doesn't leave me shiny/feeling weird at the end of the day. If you're someone with dryer or more mature skin you most probably will think this is not enough, but for me with oily, 20-ish skin, I definitely enjoyed using this.

Finally, the cream is my fave out of all three. Once again, the price to size ratio is good (I love a good deal), and the performance is phenomenal. Daily use at night has shown me that you don't need a lot od products to feel moisturized. A little goes a long way with this product, and it really does hydrate the skin from the inside out.

Overall, after using these 3 products I did notice improvements, especially on my mask-ne. I had a lot of mini breakouts mid September and I started using these on the last week of September. We're now in the last week of October (at 1 month's usage) and my breakouts are now gone. I think the 20ppm of mugwort extracts inside these products really did help me out a lot, and the lightweight, refreshing texture of the products agreed well with my oily skin.

WILL I REPURCHASE

Definitely! I enjoyed these thoroughly and would recommend these to other 20-ish people like me who are looking for a lightweight, refreshing range if hydrating products. If you're more into powerful anti-agein products, I recommend checking out other Yehwadam products instead.
