Hi guys! Today I'll be sharing all about my review of Dior's Dior Homme Eau de Toilette.
I first came about this perfume last November from the Dior boutique in Mid Valley. I was Christmas shopping and decided to try the fragrance out, so I sprayed it on a card and left it in my bag. At the end of my day, my entire bag smelled amazing! I then went back to the store to spray it on more cards, and I put those cards everywhere: in my wallet, in my passport case, in my pouches, etc.
After falling in love with the scent, I was deliberating between the 50ml and 100ml versions until I ended up forgetting to buy it at all haha. The 50ml currently retails for RM305 while the 100ml retails for RM420.
Come March with COVID-19 and nothing else but sales to distract me while I was under lockdown, I decided to treat myself and get the 100ml from Sephora's 20% sale.
Dior Homme was first released in 2005 and was renewed in 2011. It was then again renewed this year (2020) and rebranded with the slogan "I'm Your Man". The 2011 Dior Homme fragrance is still available, but it is now sold as Dior Homme Original.
I'm sure most people have seen Robert Pattinson in Dior's ads as he's the ambassador for the Homme fragrance:
I particularly love this video of him with Vogue because I find his personality really cute haha:
The perfume is packaged in a sleek, grey box with the iconic Dior bee inside:
The glass bottle itself is very heavy and feels very luxe. The colour of the perfume reminds me a bit of whisky, while the design of the bottle is kind of like a flask.
Compared to the curves of J'adore and many facets of Miss Dior, I love that Dior Homme's bottle is so simple and minimalist. The lines are clean and I love the overall look.
The spray nozzle dispenses a nice amount of perfume, and I find that I only need a few spritzes to cover all my bases.
According to Francois Demachy (the creator of this scent), Dior Homme is overdosed with carnal woody notes and represents a return to basics. It is clear, clean, gentle and woody, but also slightly sweet, making is a simple and classic fragrance.
For top notes, Dior Homme features Bergamot, Pink Pepper and Elemi. I'm a big fan of citrusy scents, so I think what first attracted me to this was the bergamot. Pink Pepper has an aroma that is fresh and sweet-spicy with a faint floral note. Finally, elemi has a spicy, incense-like scent that is soft and somewhat balsamic, coming from the same botanical family as frankincense and myrrh,
(Yes I know it's lemons, I couldn't find any Bergamots in the grocery to shoot haha) |
For middle notes, this fragrance features Patchouli, Atlas Cedar and Cashmere Wood for an enveloping warmth. Patchouli is a popular ingredient in woody scents as it's sweet, dark and has an earthy, woody edge. Combined with the Atlas Cedar and Cashmere Wood, this makes up for a very woody centre.
In the Vogue video above, Francois mentioned that cedar is usually used for pencils, so the scent of cedar might remind people of their childhood school days as well.
Finally, the base notes for Dior Homme are made of White Musk, Haitian Vetiver and Iso E Super. The molecule Iso E gradually settles into the composition, endlessly lingering and drawing out the scent of light wood. It's what gives Dior Homme that "deliciously clean" and fresh sensation.
I love how nice this EDT smells! It's not too heavy but it does smell manly. It mixes the bergamot and the woody scents in a way that makes it work for both day and night.
The first time I used this, half the people in the room came to me and asked what I sprayed on haha. One guy even said he knew this scent and that he was interested in it, but he never found out which brand it was from.
If you guys are ever looking for a perfume for yourself (guys) or to gift someone special like your partner or your dad, I highly recommend this! Drop by any Dior boutiques, Sephoras or department stores and try it out today.
And that's it for this post! I hope you guys found it helpful and informative.
See y'all in my next post!
