Coach x Jean-Michel Basquiat Collection now available in Malaysia

Hi guys, today I'll be sharing all about the Coach x Jean-Michel Basquiat Collection which is now available in Malaysia!

Jean-Michel Basquiat is widely considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century. Known for his raw neo-expressionist pieces, Basquiat gained international acclaim in the late ‘70s and ‘80s for creating works of art that were both political and deeply personal. Featuring colourful abstract imagery and phrases inspired by African, Aztec, and Greek cultures, African-American history and topics related to social justice, his pieces reflect the political and social turmoil of his generation that continues to this day.

If you're a long-time K-pop fan like me and some of his art strikes you as familiar, it's because JMB was one of GD's inspirations for his personal style and his brand Peaceminusone.

Here are some key elements of Basquiat's works that Coach has decided to incorporate into their designs for this collection:

I would say the key piece/the most collectable item from this collection would be the Beat Shoulder Bag 18, modelled here by Megan Thee Stallion:

In gorgeous ivory pebbled leather, this bag features a new Coach bag style, complete with new hardware and logos. The Famous text in front is embroidered, and it comes with 3 interchangeable straps, making it super versatile.

Beat Shoulder Bag 18

The Elm/dark green version of the bag is a little bit more low key, featuring the New York skyline. The leather is smooth calf, and although it looks cute, I would personally go for the pebbled ivory instead.

Rogue 25

The Rogue 24 has 4 variations in this collection and the ones that stand out the most for me are this ivory + the black one below.

Aside from the top handles, the Rogue 25 features 4 hooks. You can either use these 4 hooks to attach two shoulder straps or attach a long crossbody strap. This means that this versatile bag can be worn in 3 ways as well.

The black one stands out to me because of the Famous motif in front and the crown motif behind:

I realized that with the 4 variations, all 4 have different small details that make each colourway unique.

For the Cinder variant, the top handle comes in exotic snakeskin:

I'm not sure why the elm variant is more expensive than the previous 3 colours (even the snakeskin), but it does look like a very simple statement piece that isn't too "graffiti":

Looking like a cute lunch box, this is definitely one of the more covetable bags in this collection. Sleek in nature, the elements of JMB's work makes it a chic statement piece:

The black strap instantly adds life to any old bag. making it a fun statement piece. I'm actually getting one for myself!

Rogue Crossbody 12

Part of the men's collection, I would say this is a unisex bag that I've seen both genders sporting on Instagram. I love the compact size and how street-syle it looks.

The downside to this would be that the strap features no JMB elements, it's legit just a plain black strap. It's quite long too, but Coach can punch more holes into it if you need them to.

Rogue Slim Brief 25

A hidden gem, I actually don't even remember seeing this bag before entering the store. It has a nice size for daily use, and the strap comes with JMB motifs.

The style of this bag, however, is a bit too formal for me. It would be a great daily office bag for someone stylish who wants something work appropriate with a twist.

Another "work"-able bag (get it lol), this bag struck me as a bit basic/quite normal graffiti.

For the amount of space this bag has, I would say it's price is justified. Plus, the normal version of this bag is around the price point as well, so if you were interested in the Wells Backpack, I recommend getting this limited edition variant as well.

As for ready to wear, some of the women pieces have arrived but the men's have been delayed.

This black shirt features embroidery of the NY city skyline, but as I like to wear my pants high waisted, I think the design wasn't really for me.

Oversized Varsity Jacket

Made of 97% polyester, 3% elastane and line with 100% polyester, this jacket almost fooled me into thinking it was silk. It was so silky smooth!

And that was it for the Coach x Jean-Michel Basquiat Collection! Here are some of the unavailable pieces here in Malaysia:

This collection is super limited and will only be carried in select Coach stores. If I'm not mistaken, it's KLCC, Pavilion, Gardens Mall and Gurney Plaza. Each store only carries 1-2 stocks of each piece, so if you're interested in anything, call them up asap and reserve it!
