Hi guys, today I'll be sharing about Kiehl's Ginger Leaf and Hibiscus Firming Mask
The lovely team at Kiehl's sent me a bottle of their Iris Extract Activating Treatment Essence a while back together with the Ginger Leaf & Hibiscus Firming Mask, and after trying them both out, I'm here today to share my thoughts about the mask!
WHAT IS IT?
Kiehl's Ginger Leaf and Hibiscus Firming Mask is a rich and velvety overnight firming face mask for all skin types. Infused with Hibiscus Seed Extract and sustainably sourced Ginger Leaf, this face mask helps smooth and firm skin while visibly reducing the appearance of fine lines over time.
On their website it says that the main functions of this sleeping mask are that it:
- Helps firm skin while you sleep for a smoother appearance
- Melts onto skin with an air-whipped, velvety texture
- Visibly reduces the appearance of fine lines over time
WHERE TO BUY?
This product is available nationwide here in Malaysia in all Kiehl's stores as well as their website. You can get the full-sized 100ml tub for RM273 or ask for a free sample at any store.
PACKAGING
This mask comes in a tub like all of Kiehl's masks, and if I said it once, I'll say it a hundred times more: I prefer it when products come in tubes rather than tubs. I know that you can get every last bit of product in tubs, but I feel like tubs are quite unhygienic, even when you use spatulas.
Anyway, similar to all their masks you get the info + full ingredient list directly on the product packaging itself:
It came with a sealed foil cover which I removed
INGREDIENTS
According to Kiehl's, the 2 main ingredients are
- Botanical Hibiscus - The Hibiscus flower is known to close during the night to preserve its nectar. Hibiscus Seed Extract helps firm and smooth skin.
- Ginger Leaf Ginger Leaf - known to help smooth and firm skin.
The ingredients mainly consist of EWG green and yellow-level ingredients (which means they will unlikely cause irritations), but there are 3 fragrances used that got a red-level rating. I didn't react or get any irritations/breakouts while using this product, but I thought it would be good to highlight it, especially for those of you who have sensitive skin.
This product is paraben-free, sulfate-free, alcohol-free and silicone-free. It contains lots of anti-ageing ingredients (Adenoside, Tocopherol, Citric Acid and Tocopherol Acetate) and contains highly moisturizing ingredients that those with dry skin will really enjoy (Butylene Glycol, Glycerin & Tocopherol).
FRAGRANCE & TEXTURE
This product smells a bit like what you would expect old people skincare to smell like hahaha. There's no better way to explain it. I expect it's the ginger, but it does smell a certain scent. It's not that heavy but it does linger for a while.
The product itself is a light pink/cream colour with a pudding-like texture. It is slightly cooling on the skin and absorbs really quickly. It sinks in really fast and leaves a thick, moisturized finish. I wouldn't say that it's too thick like some of the other sleeping masks I've tried, and to be honest it feels more like a moisturizer. The finish is shiny and it's a bit tacky when you apply it but that stickiness disappears after it fully absorbs into the skin.
HOW TO USE
I usually use this product at the end of my night routine. I massage it onto my skin at night in an upward motion and leave it on overnight. When I wake up, I wash it off as I take a bath.
MY REVIEW & VERDICT
After using this mask, I found it to be quite firming and nice to use! Since it's not sticky, my hair doesn't stick to my face nor do I feel uncomfortable. It's a very nice thickness that feels comfy, yet at the same time very firming. Immediately after applying it my skin feels very plump and tight. I would compare this to a rich cream product without the thick feeling. After washing it off the next day, I find that my skin still feels plump and firm, and it also feels very smooth and soft.
As for the claims that this mask said it has, let's go through them one by one:
Helps firm skin while you sleep for a smoother appearance - YES! I can definitely attest to the smooth texture of my skin and the firming effect. I would recommend this to those looking for a firming, anti-ageing mask that feels comfy on the skin.
Melts onto skin with an air-whipped, velvety texture - yup! It melts into the skin very easily and absorbs quickly. It doesn't leave any icky thick residues and is very comfy.
Visibly reduces the appearance of fine lines over time - 50/50. I can't attest to the fine line reducing properties of this product as I have yet to get fine lines.
WILL I REPURCHASE?
The price is quite hefty, and although it's a great product, I don't think it's a must buy. I use this mask once to twice a week and since a liitle product goes a long way, I think this will last me quite a while. When it runs out I don't think I'll immediately repurchase it, but if I find myself with no sleeping mask in my vanity and am in need of one, I definitely would consider getting another tub as well. TL;DR - it's great and I'll keep using it, but it's not something I would urgently repurchase once it finishes.
