Hi guys, welcome back to my blog! Today I'll be sharing all about Dr. Wu's Glutalight Whitening System
Glutathione is an antioxidant-rich skin brightening ingredient that's known to be really effective, but its usually consumed via pills or injected into the body via syringe or drips. I've always heard of Glutathione ever since I was young, but I rarely ever heard of products which can be applied directly topically that use Glutathione as the main ingredient.
Dr. Wu recently released the all-new Glutalight Whitening System line, and the products from this line are the first commercial products to feature patented Japanese Glutathione. Formulated with advanced ingredients, these products protect the skin, suppress excess melanin production, reverse existing pigmentation & damage and deeply hydrate the skin.
I received these products about a month ago and have started using them, and today I'll be sharing some information about them + my thoughts about each of them.
Without further ado, let's go!
WHAT IS IT
Adopting advanced Japanese patented technology, Dr. Wu has developed an extremely stable yet effective version of Glutathione that can be applied onto the skin. Combining it with advanced ingredients such as Ascorbyl Glucoside (a type of Vitamin C), Hyalo-Oligo (one of Dr. Wu's trademark ingredients) and Vitamin B3, B5 and B6 to name a few.
The main purpose of this line is not only to brighten the skin, but also to:
1. Protect the skin from damages of UV radiation and harmful free radicals that tends to darken our body
2. Suppress the skin from producing too much melanin (the more melanin, the darker the skin colour)
3. Reverse existing damage, pigmentations and dark spots caused by UV damage
4. Deeply hydrate the skin to keep it supple and plump throughout the lightening process.
The range consists of 4 products which can be used to make the skin brighter, clearer, hydrated and have a more even looking appearance, namely:
Dr. Glutalight Intensive Whitening Essence Toner | RM179
Removes darkness, improves firmness & reduce the appearance of dark circles around the eye area
Dr. Wu Glutalight Intensive Whitening Serum | RM169
Prevents the production of melanin for a rapid and longer lasting whitening effect
Dr. Wu Glutalight Intensive Whitening Lotion | RM219
Moisturiser and translucency improver which soothes, whitening and moisturises skin, effectively decreasing the appearance of pigmentation while lightens dull and uneven skin tone
Dr. Wu Glutalight Intensive Whitening Eye Serum | RM179
Repairs skin, making it bright and shiny. Also decreases the appearance of pigmentation while soothing and moisturising skin at the same time
PACKAGING
All 4 products come in white packaging and are packaged similar to other Dr. Wu products. The eye gel dispenses products very precisely and hygienically unlike eye creams that come in tubs.
The toner does not come sealed with foil, but it does have a stopper attached to the twist cap to prevent it from leaking/spilling.
The serum comes with a protective cap and a pump dispenser instead of dropper
And the lotion comes in a convenient pump bottle as well. I prefer this over a tub style as it's more hygienic and you can easily control how much product you dispense.
INGREDIENTS
As I mentioned, these products contain Glutalight, Dr. Wu's patented Glutathione complex. It's a stable complex which can be applied topically and does not contain any light-sensitive ingredients/alcohol, making it suitable for all skin types.
Aside from Glutalight, the products in this line also contain more ingredients that brighten the skin further (Ascorbyl Glucoside, Oxidized Glutathione, Niacinamide), as well as products that help boost and strengthen skin (Pyridoxine), help hydrate the skin (Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid) & help with anti-aging (Silybum Marianum extract).
HOW TO USE
This range is recommended to be used together in the order of eye cream > toner > serum > lotion, but I usually tone first before applying eye cream. Since they were obviously formulated to work best with each other, I tried my best to use all of them together for both day and night time. I found them to be nice for the night and quite okay for the day (more about that below). Before Dr. Wu sent me this set I was actually already using their Akni cleanser, so I paired that with these products as well. For the morning I added a sunblock at the end, while at night I did not use any sheet mask/sleeping mask as I found the entire range on my face felt hydrated enough.
FRAGRANCE & TEXTURE
The toner is very watery and is light. There is no scent and it feels quite fresh and hydrating.
The eye serum has a gel texture, is semi transparent and is scentless as well. It sinks in pretty easily into the skin. It is slightly sticky, but not so much after being absorbed.
The serum is clear in colour and has a thick, viscous texture. It runs quite easily (slightly watery), but don't be fooled, she's quite thick. I feel like this serum is super moisturizing and a little product goes a long way. She takes a while to be fully absorbed into the skin, and once she is, she still feels a little sticky.
Last but not least, the lotion. This product is white in colour and has a light cream texture. It's not an emulsion like I expected but is more of a light, thin cream. It leaves a natural sheen to the skin and absorbs really quickly, but what I find most interesting is that it makes the stickiness of my eye area and my face from the eye serum + serum become not sticky at all! It really boggled my mind the first time I experienced it because I was expecting that layering something on top of the serum (which was sticky) will only make it even stickier.
With a whole face of Glutalight products on, I feel very moisturized + fresh. After sealing it all in with the lotion, I do not feel like it's heavy at all. I feel like my skin is super plump + glowy.
MY REVIEW & VERDICT
After using the Glutalight products, here are my final thoughts:The eye serum was really nice and different from the ones I currently own. It's super lightweight, and I feel like it does help reduce my dark undereye area. It's not a miracle product that gets rid of them overnight, but as someone who always sleeps late, I have noticed that this product has helped keep my undereye area look more fresh/less haggard. Its quite hydrating, and I think I'll continue to use it to maintain my eye area.
The toner, although very light and hydrating, did not really stand out to me. I can pat it in like an essence and it feels lightweight on the skin, but if you're someone looking to try products out from this line, I'd recommend you skip this. It's not bad or anything, but I personally feel like I would rather use a toner that can help with sebum control + pore refining. It's nice and hydrating, but I would recommend you to get a toner that helps with your specific needs like acne care or sebum control instead.
I quite the serum but the deal breaker for me is the slight stickiness. If I use it by its own, it remains slightly sticky. I don't really like this for the day, but if you're someone who uses makeup daily, this won't be a problem.
My fave (texture wise) out of all 4 products would be the lotion. It's deeply moisturizing + cancels out the stickiness of the serum, making it more bearable for the day.
Effect-wise, I think my fave are the serum and lotion. I think both of them work really well to make my skin tone look even + look healthy and glowy. Everything that they claim to be able to do (aka improve skin clarity, brightness, moisture & dark spots) were ticked, and I love how crystal clear my skin looks. It did not help me miraculously turn several shades brighter, but it did improve the overall look of my complexion + made it overall better/healthier. My skin also feels extremely soft after using the entire range, and I also feel like my skin feels plumper.
WILL I REPURCHASE?
The only product I will not reconsider repurchasing is the toner. Aside from that, I don't mind getting the other 3 products. The synergy of the serum and cream is really good, and I'll keep using them together to maintain my clear skin.
Aaaaaand that's all for this post! I hope you found it helpful and informative.
See y'all in my next post!
