Hi guys, welcome back to my long overdue review of Klairs' Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop Serum!
This serum is one of the most popular K-beauty vitamin C serums out there and I just needed to get my hand on it and to try it for myself. I've seen a lot of people rave about it, but I've also heard from a few beauty bloggers whom I follow on Instagram that they don't really like it at all.
Back in September, Klairs released the Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Mask, which was a follow up to their popular Freshly Juiced serum. They sent it to me to review, and when they found out that I wanted to try the serum as well, they were generous enough to send the serum to me as well! (Thanks Klairs & Wishtrend!).
Its been almost 9 months now, and if you follow me on my Instagram, you'll know I'm a super fan of the combo. The pudding-like texture of the cream and the overall effect of the duo really does help to brighten the skin and fade scars! I really recommend this duo, and since I have a review of the mask/cream out, I thought I might as well type up a post about the serum since I love it a lot 😄
As always, I'm here to tell you guys that although the product was sent to me, my review will be honest and will contain my 100% authentic opinions about the product. I was not paid to give an honest review, and to be honest, it will be very easy to see why I love this serum once you read about the ingredients + see the before & after pics.
So without further ado, let's get on with the review!
WHAT IS IT?
This product is a serum designed with pure vitamin C and other naturally effective ingredients that are safe & non-irritating. It promises to energize & rejuvenate the skin, brighten dull skin, as well as to help with enlarged pores.
A lot of vitamin C serums nowadays have lots of claims, but I only really need them to do a few things for me to be happy. I need them to be able to clear my skin, face acne scars and give me a "revitalized" looking complexion.
WHERE TO BUY
This product officially retails for $23 on Wishtrend.com, but is currently on sale for only $18.40 (find out why at the end of this post!).
You can also get it on the following K-beauty websites:
Althea.kr • $23
Sokoglam.com • $23
Hermo.my • RM108.80 (~$28)
PACKAGING
Both this serum and the cream/mask from the same range come in an amazing holographic box, which I think is super cute! A lot of Korean' brands don't really splurge on their box packaging, opting to leave it simple. The holo box really gives a good impression from the moment you receive the product and is just soooo pretty.
The product itself comes in a 35ml plastic dropper bottle. The holo theme continues with the product packaging itself, and I really like how they used a material that looks like glass but is actually plastic. It doesn't look cheap at all and looks very bright, simple and clean.
INGREDIENTS
The main ingredient in this serum is of course, Vitamin C. The Vitamin C in this serum is 5% Ascorbic acid & Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, and they're suitable for all ages and skin types, even if you have the most sensitive skin. Vitamin C is known to be great at evening out your skin tone, shielding skin from pollution, significantly improving hydration, and keeping your skin looking younger, longer. This serum also contains Centella Asiatica Extract which is my fave ingredient as it helps promote wound & acne scar healing.
The EWG ratings of the ingredients in this serum are pretty clean and most of them have a rating of 1. There are no ingredients rated 4 or higher and you can view all the ingredients on Skincarisma by clicking here.
TEXTURE + FRAGRANCE
This serum is clear in colour and has a thin consistency. Its not super thin like water but has a slight viscosity to it (although it is still pretty thin compared to other serums I currently have on my vanity). The scent is pretty nice and citrusy, and once applied evenly on the skin it has a slight oily finish to it.
As with all Vitamin C serums, if you leave it under the sun or under heat, it will turn yellow. Most brands advise not to use the serum after it has changed colour, but I read online that people whose serums had turned orange/yellow had continued using it had the same effects. Its even stated on Wishtrend.com that "If a slight color change occurs, the effects of the product will not be influenced". In one of the reviews I read, someone reached out to Klairs and they actually says that it's still safe to use.
To be honest I still use it to this day and I find no problem with it and its effects. If you want to keep it fresh, I suggets you put it in your fridge. Mine didn't get exposed to sunlight, it was just exposed to the heat of my room lol. I have no fridge in my place and...yeah it was inevitable.
HOW TO USE
After cleansing & toning my face, I apply a drop of this on my forehead, cheeks, nose and chin, and the I proceed to rub it in gently into my skin. There's a slight warm feeling when you rub it in (no tingling however).
Since it is a vitamin C product, I advise you not to use it in the morning, especially if you will be exposed to sunlight. Klairs says that this serum is stable and won't have any skin darkening effects (and will be even more stable with the protection of Vitamin E if you use the Klairs vitamin E mask), but better safe than sorry you know? I make it my rule that if I use ANY Vitamin C product, I will only use it either at night or slather on a ton of sunscreen on my face + use an umbrella + avoid the sun like the plague lol.
MY REVIEW + VERDICT
To be honest, this serum is one of the best vitamin C serums I've tried. I've tried a few (like Purito, C20, It's Skin, Nacific, etc.), and I feel like this works the fastest & has the most visible results.
As someone with acne skin, I get a lot of acne scars. It doesn't matter if I take care of my diet & skincare routine or not pop my pimples, I will always have acne or acne skin. That's just how my acne skin works. This serum however kinda reduces the amount of acne that I get, and it also helps to really speed up the acne scar fading time. A small, shallow acne scar usually disappears after a week if I diligently use this serum every day, and deep scars take a bit more time but it definitely fades those as well. I mean, look at the comparison of my face when I first got the serum in September 2017:
and my skin now (taken in April to May 2018):
After fading my cheek scars I got a few more acne (which evolved into scars), but basically, all of the scars I had back then are now gone! Especially my forehead scars, you can see that my skin has totally cleared up! I really recommend this serum to anyone who needs a powerful serum to fade acne scars fast.
WILL I REPURCHASE?
100000% yes! The only think I really don't like about it is the changing colour, but since it still works the same for me, I don't really mind it that much I guess. Also, from the time that I got it till now, you can see that I barely reached halfway through the bottle. That's because as a blogger I need to try out lots of products, and to be honest I have to commit to certain products for a period of time before sharing the effects and results with you guys. So usually when I have scars I'll use this serum for 1-2 weeks, and by the end of that my face is usually already scar free and I'll move on to another serum or product which I have to commit to for a review. I always come back to this serum whenever my skin looks like it's going to break out or when I know I have an event coming up where I need really good skin. Anyhoo, TL:DR, yes I'd buy it. If you use it everyday (morning and night) the serum might last you 3-4 months, but if you use it like me, it'll last you way longer. Just put in the fridge an you're all good honey.
I also really recommend the Klairs Vitamin E mask/cream to you guys because I feel like the combo of the Vitamin C + E really plays a part in the speed of my scars fading so fast.
