Hi guys, welcome back to my blog! Today I'll be sharing my pigmentation laser experience with Premier Clinic's KL City Branch.
As someone who is very into beauty, I've been wanting to consult a dermatologist/aesthetician for the longest time to see what solutions are possible for the problems that I have. I actually have 4 main concerns:
1. Acne scars (no matter what I do there are some stubborn spots)
2. Beard removal (I never wanna grow a beard and its bothersome for when I apply makeup)
3. Sunken under eyes (I realized that it's not lack of sleep, but just sunken in general)
4. Chubby cheeks (My cheeks are very chubby, even after dieting and exercise!)
Premier Clinic is a popular aesthetic clinic here in KL and they have a lot of services available. If you head over to their website, you'll see that they offer a variety of services from lasers, fillers, and botox to hair transplant, weight loss, tattoo removal and more, so I decided to contact them. Just a disclaimer, although I did not pay for my visit to Premier, I was not compensated in any way. I'm still here to provide you guys a 100% honest review!
They currently have 4 branches, and the branches are located in Bangsar Baru, TTDI, Puchong and KL City. I initially made an appointment in their Bangsar branch on a weekday (December 28th) during my lunch break, but unfortunately, there were a lot of patients and the doctors were all unavailable. Although I had made an appointment prior to coming, I was told that I had to wait up to an hour just to meet my doctor for consultation.
To be honest, I was kind of annoyed because I only had 1 hour for my lunch, and I had wasted it in coming over + being asked to wait. However, I kinda understood the receptionist's reasoning and kept in mind that if I were the patient, I wouldn't want the doctor to rush any procedures just so he can move on to more customers and make more cash. I guess I was just taken aback, but in the end, I decided to be mature about it and didn't make a fuss about it. Instead, I rescheduled my appointment to January 28 instead and changed to the KL City branch at the recommendation of their staff.

I later learned that the KL City branch is the latest addition to Premier's line up of clinics here in the Klang Valley. Located in Megan Avenue, the clinic is very easily accessible and is near KLCC. I took the train to KLCC and took an Uber to the clinic (which only cost RM3).
Once inside, I was greeted by the friendly staff and was asked for my ID for registration. They offered me water and asked me to take a seat in the reception area. I cannot stress how nice the staff were! The ladies who assisted me were always smiling and polite, and I found them to be very pleasant.
I was told that the doctor was just finishing up with a patient, and was asked to move to another waiting room to wait. Over here there were some magazines as well as a screen showing some past work/portfolio of Premier's doctors.
After the doctor finished up with his patient, it was my turn to come in for consultation. The head doctor in charge of the KL City branch is Dr. Nigel Ong, and I told him about my 4 main concerns and what procedures he would suggest for me to fix them.
Dr. Nigel was seriously super nice and the #1 thing I liked about my conversation with him is that he was informative + very comfortable to talk to. It wasn't awkward at all and he named several options that I could choose.
1. Acne scars & Beard removal
As a beauty blogger, I need to maintain a nice complexion! One of my main struggles when applying makeup is my acne scars + my beard area. I have to use a lot of concealer to hide my scars and I usually have to spend 20 minutes just plucking my stubble out with tweezers. To combat this, Dr. Nigel suggested Pigmentation laser, which is multifunctional and can tackle both my scars and reduce my beard. This would help lighten the pigmentation left by acne as well as even the overall skin tone of my face (my forehead was darker than the rest of my face).
2. Sunken under eyes
For my sunken eyes, Dr. Nigel confirmed that it was, in fact, not lack of sleep but rather a sign of aging. Can you believe it! Although he said the condition of my skin looked young and plump, the deep lines under my eyes were a sure sign of aging, and that in 2-years time it would worsen. This didn't really scare me because I myself had already seen how fast the lines have progressed. I didn't have these in college! For these, Dr. Nigel suggested fillers.
3. Chubby cheeks
As for my chubby cheeks, before going for anything crazy like fat grafting, Dr. Nigel suggested going easy with botox first. Before coming to Premier I actually searched a few videos on YouTube already about jaw botox, so I was definitely interested in that.
In the of the consultation, Dr. Nigel asked me which procedure I would like to have first, and I decided on pigmentation laser, the easiest (because I thought it would be better to go in levels!
What is Pigmentation Laser?
Laser treatment is one of the most advanced treatments for removing unwanted pigmentation on the skin such as age spots, sun spots, and freckles. The laser in particular that I went for was called q-Switch Nd:YAG laser. On their website, it says that it works by emitting high energy light towards the desired area. The laser then assists to remove unwanted skins cells on the surface, allowing a fresh layer of skin to grow in order to replace the old one. The new skin that replaces it is, in turn, smoother, lighter in tone and healthier than the previous layer.
This laser penetrates deep into the skin without harming the top layer, and the laser stimulates the skin to produce fresh collagen + important vitamins and minerals that the skin needs. These elements are essential for the skin to repair itself and during the growth of new skin cells to ensure it is in better health and condition than before, as well as maintaining a youthful appearance.
For my cheeks, I have a few stubborn spots that just won't seem to go away. If you look at my left jaw area, you'll also notice that the skin isn't even and there are lots of dark spots.
As for my forehead, I have a few stubborn spots that just won't fade as well, and you can see that my forehead also has some pigmentation, making it look uneven and slightly dirty.
The procedure started with the staff cleansing my face, and she did it quite nicely + gave my face a slight massage as well.
After that, we started on the laser. Dr. Nigel covered my eyes and did the left side of my face first so I could see a half-half comparison.
The laser wasn't painful at all. You know those big ass needles used in sewing clothes, like those big blunt ones? It felt like someone was using a big needle (the blunt side with the aglet) and just gently poking my skin with it. It was totally not painful, and no anaesthesia was necessary at all.
Also, the nurse held a cooling apparatus to help blow cold air on my skin to counteract the heat of the laser.

After doing half my face, Dr. Nigel showed me the comparison and I was shook! I could immediately tell that my skin was brighter! The marks didn't disappear completely (obviously) but the overall tone of my skin was brighter and clearer. I also noticed that my peach fuzz turned white, and I was told that that's normal after receiving laser treatment and that they would fall off throughout the next few days.
After that, Dr. Nigel continued to do the rest of my face:
Followed by cooling my skin with damp towels. Finally, he gave me an LED treatment that helps heal wounds + increase production of collagen & elastin.
The immediate results were that my skin was super smooth and soft. I could immediately see my peach fuzz had become white and effectively thinner. I was told to expect small bumps on my face as a side effect (kinda like a purging), but that they will disappear after 2 hours. I went for a durian buffet and literally, nothing happened on my face. I was as smooth as a baby's butt.
The next day, my face kinda felt slightly dry but I fixed it real quick with my normal skincare routine. I grew a pimple on my chin overnight, but with a hydrocolloid patch, it disappeared after 2 days. Over the next few days, I noticed that my forehead lines were a little less prominent too.
It is now April 3 (a few months have passed) and here's a comparison of my skin now:
Although I grew some more pimples and they left some scars, as you can see from the circled part, my stubborn dark spot became significantly lighter! I was told that to see results with laser you have to do it 3-5 times, but I'm really happy that I get to see even the slightest bit of change.
If you look at the triangle area above, you'll also notice that the area is evener + the marks are lighter.
Below you can see my right cheek, and although I got more marks (lol) the dark area that was previously there is now significantly lighter.
Finally, for my left cheek, you can see a very big improvement on the pigmentation on my jawline + my stubborn acne scar is significantly lighter.
MY VERDICT
Would I recommend getting laser done? I'd say yes. Although skin care products really help to fade dark marks and scars, I think laser does a great job of boosting the skin's turnover + helping the skin recover faster. The concept is the same with dermarolling: once the top part of your skin is stimulated, your skin detects it as an injury and produces more collage, thus helping your skin recover faster.
I think the laser really helped to brighten + even out my skin + increased the effectiveness of my skincare products. The progress my skin had with just 1 session is quite noticeable, so I think 1 or 2 more sessions would really help my skin heal even faster + get clearer.
