It's finally here! Gfriend's highly anticipated 1st full studio album has dropped and I'm here to share with you guys some of my thoughts on the songs as well as my favourites!
Their teaser photos were quite bright and fun, definitely fit for summer! To be honest, ever since I heard they were coming back a few months earlier, I was so excited! As you may or may not know, I've been an avid Gfriend fan even from when they just debuted. Their songs and choreos are catchy, plus their whole "school girl" concept wasn't too over or too cutesy. I kinda wish I had Gfriend in high school because all their pictures and music videos make me wanna go back to high school :(
Anyways, their first full length album is called LOL and it'll be released in two versions, Laughing out Loud and Lots of Love. Tbh I found it a bit cheesy and the Laughing out Loud version's cover was kinda childish to me, but oh well~ *you'll see them at the bottom of this post with the download link*
The tracklist for the album is as follows:
01. INTRO
02. 물들어요 (Fall in Love)
03. 너 그리고 나 (NAVILLERA)
04. LOL
05. 한 뼘 (Distance)
06. 물꽃놀이 (Water Flower)
07. Mermaid
08. 나의 일기장 (Sunshine)
09. 나침반 (Compas)
10. 찰칵 (Click)
11. 바람에 날려 (Gone with the wind)
12. 너 그리고 나 (NAVILLERA) (Inst.)
So, on with the songs!
Navillera (You and Me) is their title track, and this is the second time Gfriend has used a foreign title (the other being Me Gustas Tu). Navillera is supposedly the title of a Korean poem, but I've seen people on Tumblr saying it's somehow linked to the French book "Le Papillon Des Étoiles"
The songs is quite standard Gfriend, I would say. It still has those guitar riffs and that "empowering Gfriend/ITNW" sound to it, though not as heavy. When they first debuted, a lot of people said that Glass Bead sounded like SNSD's Into The New World, and that their following songs did too. To be honest, I don't find it a bad thing and I kinda like how their making it into their signature sound.
I loved the music video! The aesthetics were on point (as well as their hair omg Eunha, Yerin and SinB I see you). I relly liked the pasted toned outfits and the whole brown/retro boarding school concept!
As for the other songs, Distance, Water Flower & Sunshine stood out for me.
The other songs are great as well (though Compass reminded me a bit of f(x)'s Airplane)! I feel like they're still in their rookie period, and although they're doing quite well, they still have a long way to go. I'm definitely looking forward to more great stuff from them!
Now, feast your eyes on more amazing photos!
