Girls' Generation (Korean: 소녀시대, Hanja: 少女時代, Romanized: Sonyeo Shidae ) is a nine-member South Korean girl group formed by SM Entertainment in 2007. The nine members are Taeyeon, Jessica, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona and Seohyun.
The group's Korean name (소녀시대) literally translates to Girls' Generation and the name means that "The generation of girls' domination has come". They are often referred to as:
SoShi (소시 / 少時) - an abbreviation of the groups name
SNSD - an acronym of the group's Korean name So Nyuh Shi Dae/So Nyeo Shi Dae (mainly used outside Korea)
